So much great work was done in soup kitchens, parks, homeless shelters, schools and more, all because members of the Yale community are committed to making a difference wherever they are. This year, on March 15, 2010, the local Yale volunteers will return to Foodlink for this year’s Yale Day of Service. It is a great way to give back to those in need through a great organization. Location:
Restaurant Good Luck
50 Anderson Avenue
Rochester, NY Map
Time: Thurs. Feb. 25, 2010 at 7:30 PM
Two years ago, a small group of alums from the 1980’s resurrected an undergraduate tradition of uncertain origin by establishing “Feb Club Emeritus.” The goal of Feb Club Emeritus was to for Yale alums of all generations to get together for informal, casual parties around the country, one party on each night of February.
By its second year, Feb Club Emeritus featured 62 parties on 6 continents around the globe, attended by over 5,000 alums from the Class of 1941 to the Class of 2008. These parties were relaxed, agenda-free affairs – no speeches, no pitches, no set format – just a way for alums of all ages, people with common backgrounds and interests, to enjoy a night of good food, drink and conversation (and, at many of the larger parties, Mory’s Cups).
Feb Club Emeritus now enters its third year, with over 80 cities worldwide hosting a wide variety of casual parties for Yale alums and their guests. So, whether you graduated under FDR, JFK, or GWB, come join your fellow Yalies in the Rochester area.

Past Event: An evening with Professor Robert H. Frank from Cornell, March 15, 2010

Come spend a dynamic evening with Robert H. Frank, economics columnist for The New York Times and Professor of Economics at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management.
Professor Frank’s latest book, The Economic Naturalist’s Field Guide: Common Sense for Troubled Times, illuminates the intersection between abstract theory and common sense from which satisfying, pragmatic decisions can emerge by virtue of a surprisingly small number of key principles. You’ll be captivated by Bob’s clear but rich way of explaining things like:
- Why was JFK’s “Ask not” appeal so effective?
- Is the estate tax really as bad as Rush Limbaugh thinks?
- Why do Americans save so little?
- Is happiness the only important welfare measure?

Past Event: Mixer and Movie Night, Sat. June 20, 2009
Please join the Yale Club and the Harvard Club as we go see a new documentary called, Harvard Beats Yale 29-29.
“Preposterously entertaining… Pulses with the artful, exciting beats of a thriller” – Manohla Dargis, The New York Times.
Late in the eventful year of 1968, Ivy League football teams Harvard and Yale, both undefeated that season, met in Cambridge for one of the most famous games in history. This extraordinary retelling uses rare footage of the wildly unpredictable match and is told exclusively by the original players, including Harvard’s offensive lineman, Tommy Lee Jones. More than just football, the Harvard vs. Yale game, in retrospect, was a major cultural and political event that somehow involved the Vietnam War, the beginnings of the comic strip Doonesbury, both presidential candidates from the 2000 election, and even Meryl Streep!
The Yale Club and the Harvard Club will be meeting at a local bar before the movie.
No need to RSVP — just show up!
When: Saturday, June 20, 2009.
Mixer: 6:30 PM at the bar inside the Strathallan Hotel at 550 East Avenue in Rochester
Parking: We suggest that you park at the George Eastman House, then walk a few blocks down East Avenue to the Strathallan Hotel
Movie: 8:00 PM
Where: Dryden Theater, George Eastman House, at 900 East Avenue in Rochester

More information about the movie: http://dryden.eastmanhouse.org/films/harvard-beats-yale-29-29/

Past Event: Yale Day of Service on Sat. May 16, 2009
Join other area alumni for the Yale Day of Service on Saturday, May 16, 2009. This volunteer effort is part of a worldwide alumni event, coordinated in part by the Association of Yale Alumni in New Haven. The Yale Corporation of Rochester will be volunteering at Foodlink (936 Exchange Street, Rochester, NY 14608 Google map) from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM, with a simple, on-premises lunch afterwards, so that local alumni can meet and discuss the day’s event.
For this, our maiden year, a total of 30 volunteers are needed, and many slots are still available! Families are encouraged to participate, and children as young as 8 can help! The task for the day will be posted on this website as the date approaches, but will likely be a mix of weighing food, packing boxes, and loading trucks with provisions to be distributed to area families and programs in need. To register for the event, please visit www.yaledayofservice.org, or email Mike Yurcheshen (yurch@aya.yale.edu) or Evar Miller (Illini62@webtv.net) for further information.
We know that alumni want to “give back,” and the AYA wants to give voice to this dedication. We want to enable alumni to come together as Yalies in service to others – whether through their local Yale Clubs, through their classes, or through Yale’s many shared interest groups. By coming together we can be a stronger and more visible force for change for the common good.
